Admission Requirement to Regional Maritime University

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the followingprogrammesfor the 2015/2016 Academic Year commencing in February, 2016.

A.      UNDERGRADUATE 4-YEAR B.Sc. DEGREE PROGRAMMES

 i)       B.Sc. ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING (WEEK-END) 

ii)       B.Sc. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING  (WEEKE-END)

iii)      B.Sc. COMPUTER ENGINEERING

iv)      B.Sc. COMPUTER SCIENCE

v)       B.Sc. PORTS & SHIPPING ADMINISTRATION (REGULAR/WEEK-END)

 

 

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

(i.)        B.Sc. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING/B.Sc. ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC  ENG./   B.Sc. COMPUTER  ENGINEERING

  • WASSCE/SSSCE/NECOholders who have credits (A1-C6/ A-D) in the followingThree (3) CoreSubjects:English,Mathematicsand Integrated Scienceplus credits (A1-C6) inThree ElectiveSubjects which must include Physics and Elective Mathematics with an aggregate score of24  on the SSSCE Scale or 36 on the WASSCE scale or better.

or

  • General Certificate ofEducation(GCE) Holders: Credit in at least five G.C.E ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language and Mathematics, plus at least three Advanced Level passes in relevant subjects one of which must be Mathematics.

or

  • Other Qualifications:  Other qualifications including International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum note of 10/20 in each of the relevant subjects, IGCSE with a minimum of Grade C, American Grades 12, FTC, City & Guilds, Technician Part 3 and Advanced Technician Diploma, etc. in relevant subjects which are equivalent to the SSSCE/WASSCE or the GCE will be considered.

 

or

  • HND Holders:     HND holders in Computer Science with a minimum of 2ndClass Lower Division from a recognized Tertiary Institution. Applicants must have at least two (2) years post-qualification working experience.

(ii)    B.Sc. COMPUTER SCIENCE

  • WASSCE/SSSCE/NECOholders who have credits (A1-C6/ A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects includingEnglish Language and Mathematics,plus three (3) Elective  Mathematics and Physics and any one (1) Elective subject.

or

  • General Certificate ofEducation(GCE) Holders: Credit in at least five G.C.E ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language and Mathematics, plus at least three Advanced Level passes in relevant subjects one of which must be Mathematics.

or

  • Other Qualifications:  Other qualifications including International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum note of 10/20 in each of the relevant subjects, IGCSE with a minimum of Grade C, American Grades 12, FTC, City & Guilds, Technician Part 3 and Advanced Technician Diploma, etc. in relevant subjects which are equivalent to the SSSCE/WASSCE or the GCE will be considered.

  • HND Holders: HND holders in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science with a minimum of 2ndClass Lower Division from recognized Tertiary Institution. Applicants must have at least two (2) years post-qualification working experience.

 

 

(iii.)    B.Sc. PORTS AND SHIPPING ADMINISTRATION  

 

  • WASSCE/SSSCE/NECOholders who have credits (A1-C6/ A-D) in the followingThree (3) CoreSubjects:English, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studiesplus credits (A1-C6) inThree (3) relevant ElectiveSubjects with an aggregate score of24 on the SSSCE Scale or 36 on the WASSCE scale or better.

or

 

  • General Certificate of Education (GCE)holders: Credit in at least five G.C.E ‘O’ Level subjects (including English Language and Mathematics plus at least three passes at Advanced Level.

or

  • AdvancedBusinessCertificate Examination (ABCE)holders: Applicants must have full Diploma Certificate in ABCE. In addition, applicants must have credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the GeneralBusinessCertificate Examination (GBCE) or SSSCE or WASSCE.

 

  • Other Qualifications:  Other qualifications including International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum note of 10/20 in each of the relevant subjects, IGCSE with a minimum of grade C, American Grades 12 etc. which are equivalent to WASSCE/SSSCE or GCE will be considered.

   (iv)    MATURE STUDENTS’ ENTRY ROUTE (ALL PROGRAMMES)

Applicants must be at least 25 years old, and would have to show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 5 years old at the time of application.

  1. Applicant must also pass Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations conducted by the University in (English Language, Mathematics andAptitude Test).

 

Closing date for sale and submission of Mature Candidates Application Form is Friday 11thDecember, 2015.

 

Note: The Mature Examinations will be held on  Friday 18thDecember, 2015.

 

B.       DIPLOMAPROGRAMME

 

            (i)     DIPLOMA IN PORTS AND SHIPPING MANAGEMENT

 

  • WASSCE / SSSCE/NECO: Applicants must have Credits (A1-C6 / A-D) in five (5) subjects including Core English Language and Mathematics.

or

  • G.C.E. ‘O’ Level Credit in five [5] subjects (including Mathematics & English Language), plus G.C.E. ‘A’ Level passes in any two (2) subjects.

or

  • GBCE Candidates:credit passes (A-D) in five (5) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects including English Language and Mathematics plus two (2) relevant elective subjects.

NOTE:  

 

i.          All candidates must satisfy specific Departmental requirements in addition to the general requirements. 

ii.         Final Admission onto all programmes is based on successful completion of physical and medical examinations at the Regional Maritime University Sick Bay.

 

 

[I]       DOMESTIC APPLICANTS

All applicants for the 2015/2016 Academic Year admissions are required to use the Regional Maritime University [RMU] online application portal.  The procedure for the online application process is as follows:

[c]   Access the online form by visiting the University’s online admissions portal atwww.rmu.edu.gh/admissions soon after payment.

[d]    In completing the online form, students will be required to upload their passport size photographs.

[e]    A completed form is not considered until it isSUBMITTED.

[f]     Applicants are advised to check thoroughly all details entered before finally submitting their online applications. A form, once submitted, can be viewed, but cannot be edited.

[g]     Applicants must print outapplication summary;attachtranscripts,certificatesand all otherrelevant documents.  These documents should be sent to theRegistrar.

[h]     Candidates are strongly advised to visitCourier Companiesin their Countries for assistance towards the return of the application documents [see g].
