Who is a lecturer and what do they do?A lecture in highereducationlectures on required curricula to students and carries out research in their own subject.

What are the activities of the lecturer?Lecturing to students on the lecturer’s own subject, carrying out experiments with them during laboratory sessions if the subject involves scientific work or similar, holding tutorial sessions and seminars with smaller groups. She/he awards credits to students and assesses them at examinations. She/he always specialises in a specific subject or group of subjects. Very often, s/he is involved in research or other academic work, presentations at academic conferences and workshops, and in writing study textbooks, as well as various administrative tasks to do with the running of ahigher educationinstitution.

Where is it done and under what conditions?
In classrooms, laboratories and studies, where the working environment is usually fairly comfortable.

What tools/equipment do they use?Various teaching and presentational equipment, tools or aids, depending on the teacher’s specialisation (e.g. a computer, laboratory apparatus, a video recorder etc.).

What do you need to succeed?You need a university degree, ability to exercise authority, ability to explain your subject, and patience. You also need to be able to conduct systematic research in your subject.
