Information on Mexican Drug War

The drug war that takes place in Mexico is an armed conflict between drug cartels and Mexican forces of low and order.

This armed conflict started in December 2006 and it claimed over 12 000 lives, including more than 1 000 government forces, in the past three years.

Unfortunately, this drug war is an ongoing conflict in which more than dozen of people loose their lives on daily basis.

Nowadays, Mexican drug cartels are one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the world and represent great threat to the Mexican government and security of Mexico.

Mexican government was tolerating the violence between drug cartels until the end of 2006 when newly elected presided Felipe Calderon declared war to the drag cartels by sending federal troops to put an end to drug violence in certain Mexican states.

Drug cartels have billions of dollars, more than 300 000 members, modern weaponry, satellite navigations, submarines and many other things that makes them very serious opponent to Mexican government.

Therefore if Mexican government wants to win this Mexican drug war it needs to invest more money and men power in this struggle against criminals. Also, equally important, it needs to effectively deal with the corruption.

Use of terror is widely practiced by drug cartels and it is getting worse every year. For example, cartel members are known for dismembering the bodies of their opponents and tossing body parts in crowded streets, clubs or other public places.

Even though these gruesome crimes are committed in order to let citizens know who is wining the war and to scare government forces, the effect is quite opposite from the one intended.

People of Mexico are very angry and government agents are highly motivated because they realize that they are not only fighting criminals but also for the survival of their country.

An illustration that what is said above is not exaggerated is recent report of the U.S. government in which is highlighted and emphasized that Mexico bears consideration for a rapid and sudden collapse due to its drug problems.
