In the small town of Weldon in Halifax County, there is a building close by the river. built in the 1800’s the large, brick building has always found a use due to its beauty. It lends itself well for occasions that require a sense of dignity. It also apparently lends itself well as the home to a ghost of an unknown woman in a blue gown..

Our story begins sometime in the 1940’s on the night of a dance. A young man along with a few friends drove to the building and went inside. Inside they all found their dates and began flirting and dancing the night away. As the night began to wind down, our young man asked his date for one last dance. There were about 10 couples on the floor during that song, and all of the men saw her at once.

She appeared just beyond the fireplace as the band reached the chorus of the song. She was elegant, dressed in a beautiful baby blue gown. Obviously a woman of high family standing from long ago. She seemed to be oblivious to the people around her as she lifted one hand as if accepting the dance request of an unseen suitor. What was more striking to the people of the dance was you could see the walls and fireplace through her!

In a very short amount of time, she was gone. She and her invisible dance partner had waltzed through the room and out the open doors. The dancers quickly asked if everyone had seen her. A few said they had and apparently this was not her first visit to a dance. It seems that over the next several years the lady in the blue gown would appear to those in the building. Always waltzing from the fireplace to the doors before vanishing.

To this day, no one knows who she is, or why she spends eternity waltzing in the old brick building.
