Officials of Hokkaido, the northernmost of the main Islands of Japan, declared a state of emergency due to the fact that there were new cases of infection with coronavirus, reported national broadcaster NHK on Friday.

The Governor Naomichi Suzuki urged residents to refrain from walking at the weekend — TV reported. School boards on the island have already been cancelled even before Thursday, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has demanded to close all the schools during the month.

In Japan more than 200 reported cases of the novel coronavirus and four deaths, in addition to the more than 700 cases and four deaths from the cruise ship “Diamond Princess”, which spent two weeks in quarantine during the stay in Yokohama.

As reported to journalists by the Governor, the last death recorded from a man at the age of 80 years on the island of Hokkaido, which already had health problems. On Thursday, the Prefecture had registered fifteen new cases, bringing the total number to 54, the highest level in Japan. According to officials, two new patients were children up to 10 years.
