At a briefing at the White house on Friday, Secretary of state Mike Pompeo said that the closure of borders to travelers from Canada and Mexico will come into effect at midnight Saturday.
Mr. Pompeo also reiterated that the Department of State has implemented Advisory Council level 4, warning Americans about travel abroad. He said U.S. citizens “should organize an immediate return” if they do not intend to stay abroad for a long time. “If you decide to travel, it can be quite devastating, he said.
President trump suggested that immigration will strain the healthcare system.
“During a global pandemic, they threaten to create a public storm, which will spread the infection among our border agents, other migrants and the General public,” said Mr. trump, referring to people seeking to enter the country.
Speaking on the day when the death toll exceeded 10,000 people, including more than 200 in the United States, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and infectious diseases, said there is a “fundamental cause for public health” to close the Northern and southern borders. “Understand that there is a reason in the first place for public health.”
And trump, and Pompeo used the term “Chinese virus”, continuing its efforts to rename the virus causing the disease from public health experts, especially called Covid-19, to avoid the spreading of accusations and xenophobia.
