With Thanksgiving holidays behind us, and a bit of breathing room before Christmas, this is an excellent time to clean your range and oven, spruce up your stove, and get your cooking appliances in excellent working order.

Don’t wait to take care of range problems right when you need to use your appliance most.

Here is a list of useful tips on what to do NOW to refresh, restore and update your range so it will serve you well when the Christmas holidays arrive.

  • If the knobs on your range are in good shape, take them off and clean them well with a non-abrasive cleaner.

  • If you have any knobs on your stove that are broken, worn and unreadable, you will make your stove look new again by replacing them with new knobs.

  • Oven control panels get sticky and dirty with food splatters and should be cleaned thoroughly with a non-abrasive cleanser or glass cleaner that will not scratch or damage your stove-top. If your control panel needs to be replaced, this is an excellent time to do it. Make sure to use your range, stove or oven model number to find the correct control panel for your particular appliance.

  • Range drip pans and bowls not only catch food splatters, but also radiate heat back to the cooking pan for better efficiency. Drip bowls also protect the cook from accidentally touching the internal components and getting hurt. Experts recommend that you never cover drip bowls with aluminum foil because electric ranges can short out as a result. Drip pans should be cleaned with a non-abrasive household cleanser. If they are too stained and cannot be cleaned effectively, drip bowls can be replaced with universal pans and bowls, or model-specific pans and bowls.

  • Replace the interior light in your oven with incandescent or halogen light bulbs and you will be able to see inside without opening the oven door. This saves energy and allows your food to cook without interference. The light bulb is located inside a glass dome that needs to be removed before you can replace the bulb.
