Drip pans and drip bowls serve a number of useful functions for your stove. They catch food and spills, as well as help radiate heat back at the pan for better efficiency.
Drip pans also protect the user from accidentally touching internal components of the range. It is important to never cover drip bowls with aluminum foil. Electric ranges frequently short out when covered because aluminum can cause a short circuit at the burner. The foil will also cover the oven vent, usually found at one of the burners. The oven vent needs to remain open.
Try cleaning your drip pans with a non-abrasive household cleanser. If they cannot be cleaned, you can replace them with universal pans and bowls or you can order the units original to your particular stove. For model-specific pans and bowls, use your model number to help you find the perfect match.
