This Iranian-born American businesswoman became the first female space “tourist” when she lifted off on Sept. 18, 2006 as one of the crew of Soyuz TMA-9. She paid around $20 million for her participation in the flight. On Sept. 20, 2006, her spacecraft successfully docked with the International Space Station.
