The Central Bank of China disinfects, prevents, and, reportedly, even destroying cash in an attempt to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Fan Yifei, Deputy Chairman of the people’s Bank of China, said at a Saturday press conference that the money collected by commercial banks must be disinfected before being returned into circulation.
Cash collected in hospitals and food markets must be handled separately and disinfected before delivery of banknotes in the people’s Bank of China, said Mr. Fang. In severely affected regions of the monies collected should be subjected to ultraviolet or high temperature disinfection and stored for 14 days before returning to the market, he added. In less affected areas of the banknote must be disinfected and stored for weeks before use.
According to the Nanfang, the state retail outlets in Guangdong province, Department of people’s Bank of China in the southern city of Guangzhou even destroy banknotes that are received from hospitals, food markets and public transport.
