French officials have announced a new case of coronavirus on Saturday, just several hours after the reports that the 80-year-old Chinese tourist died from the coronavirus in a hospital in Paris.
The patient recently confirmed case — a British citizen who was in Chalet Les Contamines-Montjoie, where more than five other cases were discovered more than a week ago. The patient was under observation in hospital in Lyon since last Saturday.
In the new case, the number of confirmed cases in France reached 12. Four of the infected have recovered and seven are still in hospital.
The man who died, was the first coronavirus-related death in Europe and only the fourth outside of mainland China. He was not part of the group of cases detected in the Chalet.
On Saturday the Minister of health of France agnès Buzin, said that the patient, who died Friday, were from China’s Hubei province, the source of an infection. He arrived in France on January 16 and was admitted to the hospital in the name of Bichat-Claude Bernard January 25.
“His condition quickly deteriorated and he was in critical condition for several days, “said Ms. Buzin in a televised statement.
She did not call the patient. Ms. Buzin said that the daughters of men there is also a coronavirus, and she also was hospitalized in Paris, adding that she can be discharged soon.
In mainland China, killing about 1,500 people, most of them in Hubei province. Philippines, Hong Kong and Japan reported one death.
