The number of coronavirus-infected people in Iran have exceeded 2300, the death toll has risen to 77. The head of the Parliament stated that nearly two dozen legislators were found to be positive and should avoid encounters with the public, authorities announced on Tuesday.
The government temporarily released more than 54 000 prisoners that are considered asymptomatic. But from this announcement it was unclear how many prisoners do has been tested, given the lack of testing equipment in Iran.
Gholamhossein Esmaeili, an official representative of the judiciary, announced the release of the prisoners, did not specify whether any of the reported cases of infection or deaths before prisoners were released.
Currently in Iran was 2336 cases, more than in any other country except China and South Korea. Another 11 people were killed, according to the state TV, Deputy health Minister Alireza Raisi.
State media reported on Tuesday that Ahmed Toyserkani, Advisor to the judiciary, was among those who died. Coronavirus is felt at the highest levels of the Iranian society, among other contracted Masoumeh Ebtekar, Vice-President for women’s Affairs and the most senior woman in the government.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme leader was pictured in state media in plastic gloves. He said the Iranian people to follow the medical advice to help combat the outbreak, saying that all that “contributes to its spread, is a sin“.
