The Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte on Wednesday ordered the closure of almost all businesses across the country, as the number of infections and deaths from the new coronavirus has continued to grow through two days after he announced severe restrictions on travel.
Pharmacies and grocery stores will be allowed to work.
Italy has already imposed control, unlike anything that can be seen in a modern democracy, banning public gatherings and putting 60 million people to stop the match, except for work or emergencies. But in Italy and throughout Europe, the epidemic has spread with such speed, where countries are struggling to come up with efficient deterrence plans.
In the centre of the crisis in Europe, Italy reported more than 2,300 new cases Wednesday, bringing the total number to more than 12,000, with 827 deaths — the second largest outbreak in the world after China. Italy has more than half of the cases in Europe.
Matteo Renzi, former Prime Minister, said that the victim was Italy could save the entire continent.
“Today, the red zone is the Italy — said Matteo Renzi, but if containment measures are not successful, the red area is the whole Europe”.Throughout Europe the number of confirmed infections jumped by almost a quarter from Tuesday to Wednesday, reaching more than 22 000.
