On Thursday Japan has decided to introduce a two-week quarantine for all visitors from China and South Korea amid concerns about the coronavirus.
Japan also plans to suspend the existing visas for visitors from these 2 countries. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that the people who come to Japan from these 2 countries, including Japanese citizens, will be sent to state institution for the quarantine and will not be able to use public transport.
The new measure will take effect from 9 March and will run until the end of March. The total number of confirmed cases COVID-19 in China reached 80 710, dead – 3045 people.
South Korea, the most affected country, after China, today reported 6 284 confirmed cases with 42 deaths. In Japan more than 1050 confirmed cases, including 706 with the quarantine of the cruise ship “Diamond Princess”.
Abe said that the current week or two — a critical time for Japan to take control of the flash, as his government faces pressure to curb the virus before the Olympic games in Tokyo.
