Protests: students of Pakistan remained in China due to coronavirus

KARACHI, Pakistan. About a hundred people called on the government of Pakistan “to bring our children” from inside China’s Hubei province on Sunday at a demonstration in Karachi.

Until now, the government of Pakistan has excluded the possibility of the evacuation of more than 1,000 Pakistani students in the province living in the city of Wuhan, in the center of the outbreak of coronavirus.

The Minister of state health Zafar Mirza said on Twitter Friday that he and other Ministers will hold a meeting for parents in Islamabad on Wednesday and that his government is working with Chinese authorities to provide care for students.

But many students and their families are expressing increasing frustration with the rising death toll in China, pointing out that other countries, including neighbouring India and Bangladesh, evacuate their citizens.

“For God’s sake, we ask the government, please return our children, please listen to the mother’s request, “said one of the protesters, who refused to give his name, in the media, crying.

The protesters chanted “return our children” and held placards with the same message.

In the beginning of the week dozens of families in Lahore held a similar protest near the Chinese Consulate.

The representative of the Mirza did not immediately respond to a Reuters request further review.

On Twitter he announced that the six Pakistani students in China have fully recovered, another still undergoing treatment.

However, students who spoke to Reuters from China in recent days, said they wanted to leave.
