On Thursday, South Korea announced that, according to officials, this may be the first death from coronavirus, as the number of infections in the country has more than doubled.
63-year-old patient with symptoms of pneumonia, died Wednesday at the hospital Daenam in Cheongdo, a town in the South-East of South Korea, according to the Korea center for control and prevention of diseases. On Thursday, the officials learned that the patient was infected with the coronavirus.
According to officials, the patient was hospitalized in the psychiatric ward of the hospital for the last 20 years. Medical staff checked 109 patients in the psychiatric ward, as well as employees, as on Wednesday, two patients were positive for the virus.
South Korea reported an additional 53 cases of coronavirus on Thursday, bringing the total number to 104.
All but two of the 53 new patients were residents of Daegu city 80 miles South-East of Seoul, or the inhabitants of the surrounding province North Gyeongsang province. Twenty-eight new patients were members of the Church in Daegu, where it was confirmed that 43 members were infected.
