Spain goes to isolation, and France closes businesses

On Saturday, Spain and France announced strong national restrictions on the spread of the coronavirus.

Spain ordered all citizens to be limited to location within the home and go outside only to buy food, go to work, to seek medical care or to help the elderly and others in need.

Officials in Spain said about 1500 new cases, the largest daily increase in the country so far, bringing the total to 5 753. The government has ordered the closure of all schools, restaurants and bars, extending measures adopted Friday by the different regional authorities, including in Madrid and in Catalonia.

France announced the closure of all “essential” enterprises since midnight, including restaurants, bars and cinemas, after the sudden surge in attacks by the coronavirus. Measures in both countries followed similar steps in Italy, the most affected country in Europe.
