The Director of the hospital in Wuhan, a Chinese city that is located in the centre of the epidemic, died on Tuesday after Contracting the novel coronavirus, the latest of a number of medical workers who died during the epidemic.
51-year-old Liu Jimin, the neurosurgeon and the Director of the hospital Wuchang in Wuhan, died shortly before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, said the Commission on health Wuhan.
“From the very beginning of the outbreak, comrade Liu Jimin, in spite of his personal safety, directed the medical staff of the hospital Wuchang at the forefront of the fight against the epidemic,” said the Commission. Dr. Liu “has made a significant contribution to the struggle in our city for the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus”.
Chinese medical workers on the frontline of the fight against the virus, often become its victims, partly because of government mistakes and logistical obstacles. After coronavirus has appeared in Wuhan at the end of last year, the city understated its risks, and doctors have not taken the most stringent precautions.
Last week the Chinese government said that more than 1,700 medical workers were infected with the virus, and six of them have already died.
