Dryer Won’t Start

If your dryer won’t start, there could be a number of reasons for this problem. One of the most common, as well as least expensive and easiest to fix causes is a faulty dryer door switch. The average cost for a new door switch is  $7-50, depending on your dryer model, and most appliance owners can easily replace the switch with a bit of guidance.

How does one know if the door switch is the culprit if the dryer refuses to turn on?

Most switches on dryer doors will make a clicking thump when the door closes. If no sound is heard, use an ohm meter to check the door switch for continuity. If the ohm meter shows that the switch is faulty, find the dryer model number on your appliance, and use it to get the correct door switch for the brand and model of your dryer.
