Electronic Arts has confirmed the delay ofAnthem, the open-world, multiplayer action-RPG from developer BioWare. The highly-anticipated game will now be released in 2019, as opposed to the originally projected 2018 window.
Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, the publisher denied an earlier report from Kotaku that claimed the change in release date was due to development being behind schedule. Instead, EA is releasing a new Battlefield game in October and determined Anthem, a brand new IP, would be better suited to release during a “quieter quarter,” WSJ reports.
“It’s not a delay,” EA’s finance chief Blake Jorgensen said. “People are trying to create a story.”
