Last week, EA began lifting the curtain onMadden NFL 18‘s gameplay mechanics and new features. Today, the developer has begun to reveal top players in the game, starting with the Speed stat.
Now anyone who has played a Madden game knows that Speed kills. Whether it’s running a vertical or slant route, speed gives players the potential to turn a small play into a game-changing touchdown.
I don’t know about you, but in my Connected Franchise with friends, we always fight over the fastest guys in the draft and free agency. So who will you want to keep a look out for this year?
John Ross: The Fastest Player in Madden NFL 18
If you paid any attention to the NFL Combine this year, the name John Ross probably sounds familiar. He’s officially the fastest 40-yard dash runner in NFL history, blazing past the speed record with a 4.22. Chris Johnson had been the previous 40-yard dash record holder with a 4.24.
I don’t know if the 40-yard dash translates into success in the NFL, but it certainly does in Madden.
According to EA, John Ross boasts the highest speed rating in Madden NFL 18 with a 98. Coupled with a 84 Kick Return rating, he’s basically a lock at the return position for your team. As for his receiving skills, he has a solid Route Running score of 85.
You can find John Ross lining up opposite of A.J. Green on the Cincinnati Bengals.
Other Notable Speedsters in Madden NFL 18
While Ross may be the fastest in Madden 18, he’s not the most dynamic speedster in the game. That would probably be Tyreek Hill (Kansas City Chiefs) and Brandin Cooks (New England Patriots), who are at 97 and 96 Speed respectively. However, they beat out Ross in nearly every other pass catching rating down the board. Cooks, for instance, scores at least 10 points higher in Spectacular Catch and Catch in Traffic.
It’s worth noting that as the season, these ratings could change depending on player performance with EA’s weekly roster updates.
Madden NFL 18 releases on August 25th.
