The next installment in EA’s long-running Battlefield franchise is expected in 2018, according to the publisher/developer.
While much of the focus of EA’s most recent earnings call was on the success of Battlefield 1, the next installment in the franchise was a very brief talking point for EA CEO Andrew Wilson.
“We’ll continue delivering for our Battlefield fans, including the next great game in the franchise,” Wilson said.
While he didn’t offer any specifics, Wilson did say the companies ongoing focus will be on “advancing the state-of-the-art in games for player son every platform.”
Although EA is still releasing content for Battlefield 1, it’s never too early to begin speculating about the future of the series. EA made a bold move in taking the franchise all the way back to World War I with Battlefield 1, so is WWII our next stop? It would be risky given Activision’s move to also go back in time to WWII. Would Battlefield follow suit or explore a different period?
Either way, we still have quite a ways to go before we find out as the next Battlefield presumably won’t release until October 2018.
