When EA revealed thatStar Wars Battlefront 2would have a campaign, we were a bit taken aback when they revealed it would put you in the shoes of an Imperial soldier. During today’s games panel at D23 Expo, EA showed off a brand new behind-the-story trailer in which the developers explain some of the decisions behind the campaign.
“I’ve always been a fan of the Dark Side. The idea of the Imperial perspective is you never really understand who they are as people or how the organization works,” says game director Mark Thompson. “How can we distill that and how can we make a story around that?”
Star Wars Battlefront 2’s campaign answers pivotal questions like what happened after Return of the Jedi. What happened to the galaxy? What happened to the Empire without an Emperor? These questions are answered through an Imperial point of view, as you take on the role of Iden, a member of the Imperial Squad who happens to be on Endor when the second Death Star is destroyed by Rebels. The video provides some brief background on the character Iden, who is on track to become commander of Inferno Squad, as well as a few new characters. The video also touches a bit on the family roots of the story, which could provide an interesting twist; but we’ll have to wait and see.
Most importantly, the trailer provides us with more gameplay and cinematics for Star Wars Battlefront 2’s campaign so check it out!
On a related note, Disney and Lucasfilm yesterday announced a new novel,Battlefront II: Inferno Squad, which serves as a prequel to Star Wars Battlefront 2’s campaign. Battlefront II: Inferno Squad arrives on July 25th, and is now available for pre-order.
Meanwhile, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is due out on November 17, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
