Kumasi, Nov. 19, GNA – A guesthouse constructed by the School of Engineering of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science andTechnology(KNUST) at the cost of 4.5 billion cedis, has been commissioned. The facility, which was funded through the school’s locally generated revenue would accommodate visitors of the school and would also, be used to generate revenue.
A chunk of funds for the project were derived from proceeds of a contract awarded to the school to train and upgrade teaching skills of polytechnic tutors in 1996.
The guesthouse comprises 28 rooms, a conference hall, restaurant, kitchen, laundry, drinking bar and a car park.
Commissioning the project in Kumasi on Friday, Professor Kwesi Andam, Vice Chancellor of KNUST, commended the School of Engineering for its initiative and foresight in constructing the guesthouse. Professor E.A. Jackson, Dean of the School of Engineering, said the building of the facility would assist the school to cut down the cost on accommodating its visitors.
“The school receives many visitors and friends from local and from abroad and the only prudent step to reduce expenditure on their accommodation is to have our own guesthouse”.
The Reverend Dr K. Effah-Ababio, Chaplain of the Protestant Chaplaincy of KNUST, who dedicated the guesthouse, called for use the guesthouse for the reasons for which it was built.
