Ghosts of Hell’s Gate

Oakwood Cemetery has a reputation for being one of South Carolina’s most haunted places. Located in Spartanburg, it is home to a number of ghosts and other paranormal activities. This is the story of Hell’s Gate Cemetery.

Close to Converse College, Oakwood Cemetery has for years been known as a place for those looking to add a little excitement into their lives. Satanists are thought to hold ceremonies here during the witching hour. As recent as 2012 there have been cases of graves being disturbed and bodies dug up.

Many people have had strange things happen to them in the cemetery, some occurring down a hill at the back of the property where the poorest people were buried. Fully charged cameras and cell phones have gone dead for no reason. Even experienced ghost hunters have claimed their equipment was drained of power by being in the cemetery only a short while. Cold spots and orbs are almost common occurrences, and many people have claimed that there is something out there that waits and watches from some unseen vantage point.

Children’s laughter comes from somewhere in the cemetery with some saying they’ve seen the ghosts of children playing among the tombstones. One spirit in particular has people talking. There is the spirit of a young boy said to have fallen to he death. Several people have said he comes up to people to people with a ball asking them to play with him before he fades away into nothing.

If you go to Oakwood Cemetery, be sure to obey the rules and be out before dark. No one knows what you’ll run into.
