My husband and I purchased our first home. It had been built in 1972 and we moved in July 4th weekend 2004.We had learned through the previous owner a little bit about the history of the home.He was divorced and had purchased the house as an investment but also as a place where his boys could have their own rooms. He confessed that he hadn’t made any changes to the home since he moved in three years before. We had an opportunity to chat with him during the closing on the house and he had said the home was owned by a widow that had two teenage children. The husband had died very suddenly at the age of 54.The widow had her father and brother-in-aw assist her in fixing up the home that her teenage kids had destroyed in order to sell it. Needless to say they weren’t professionals and as we began to remodel, we found several of their mistakes which had become the butt of our jokes. One day, my husband and I were both in the master bathroom getting ready for work and criticizing the lousy tile work and paint job we were going to have to fix in there. Just as my husband said, “Yah, this lady really did a half-assed job in this bathroom.” the painting that was hung on the wall directly behind him flew off the wall and straight at the back of his head. Given the weight of this picture it should have fallen straight down but it flew out away from the wall instead. Also, every now and then you could swear someone has been smoking in the house the smell of cigarettes is very strong–fresh smoke not stale smoke as though someone had just lit up.A neighbor told us this gentleman was a heavy smoker and had died of a heart attack in our home. Also, in the middle of the night I will awaken from a sound sleep by the sound of a radio playing music–jazz to be specific. As soon as I turn on a light, the music stops. In addition to this man, I have had four cats pass in the ten years that Ive lived in this house. We currently don’t have any pets but I will see one of the four of them out of the corner of my eye every now and then.
