In Wilson county in eastern North Carolina there is a ghost story of an old man so miserly that it is said his wife came back from the grave to take back her possessions. No names are known nor the exact location where this took place. But the story is this:
A wealthy man who achieved his wealth by spending no more than he had to was married(in a very modest wedding I’m sure). Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before his wife became ill and passed away. Those who dealt with the man wondered if it was because he was too cheap to pay a doctor or for medicine. Anyway, it was at his wife’s funeral that his penny pinching went over the top. In front of the mourners in the church, he walked up to the open coffin and removed all of his dead wifes jewelry before the lid was shut and she was buried.
The people were horrified, how could he desecrate the memory of his wife like that. Before long, he had wed another young lady and had ‘recycled’ the wedding band from his previous wife. One night not long after the ceremony, the bride was awakened by someone tugging at her finger. She opened her eyes and saw the very angry ghost of the man’s first wife pulling at the ring on the young girls finger.
So be careful young ladies, and be sure when you are given a ring, you are the FIRST owner.
