The 4th Annual J.U.i.C.E. Hip Hop Dance Festival, at Ford Amphitheatre on Friday, September 30, features a wide range of street dance performances. The festival runs from 8:30 to 11:30 pm, following a pre-show starting in the plaza at 7 pm that includes DJs, open dance ciphers, live graffiti art, merchant booths, chances to enter raffles, and more.
TheJ.U.i.C.E. (Justice by Uniting in Creative Energy) Hip Hop Dance Festival was founded by Emiko Sugiyama (B-girl Emiko) to celebrate world peace, inspired by a trip to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in her native Japan. This year, each person attending the festival will be invited to create an origami crane to be sent to the Children’s Peace Monument in Hiroshima.
This year’s dance showcase focuses on highly respected women in hip-hop, artists with a disability who have achieved success, and the youth who will shape the future of hip hop.
J.U.i.C.E. is a nonprofit organization that seeks to better the lives of youth in inner cities by providing them a positive means of self-expression through the elements of hip-hop culture.
