Hunting License
You need a valid hunting licesnce to be able to hunt coyotes in Idaho.
Season Dates and Bag Limits
Coyotes don’t have a season in Idaho, they may be hunted year round. Also, there are no limits on how many coyotes you can take.
Loaded Firearms
It is unlawful to carry a loaded firearm (round in the chamber) in or on any vehicle in Idaho. However, you may carry a firearm in a vehicle with cartridges or shells in the magazine.
Night Hunting
It is legal to hunt unprotected or predatory animals (coyote) on private land after obtaining written permission from the landowner and on public lands after obtaining a “Permit to Hunt with Artificial Light.” This permit is available only at a Fish & Game regional office in those regions where they can be legally used. Not all regions allow spotlighting.
Transporting
You do not need a license in order to transport coyotes or export coyotes from Idaho.
Selling
Coyotes are classified as unprotected and predatory wildlife. The sale of legally taken unprotected wildlife is allowed under Idaho Code Section 36-501 (a). The carcasses must be accompanied by a written statement from the seller (seller’s name, address, phone number, and hunting or trapping license number) to confirm legal take.
