Oil and Gas Industry Jobs: Offshore Living Quarters

Offshore Living Quarters - Working in the oil industry can be exciting - you have the chance to learn new skills, and travel. Yet what are the living quarters like? If you'd like to know what to expect, this post should help...

Naturally accommodations will vary from one oil outfit to the next. But one thing that is a constant – the cost. You don’t have to pay for anything – food, lodgings, and creature comforts are provided. There is normally a medical doctor, and if you have an illness or serious injury you’ll be transported by helicopter.

Your travel expenses will be covered, as well.  It is worthwhile to remain on good terms with medical personnel in case you ever need them. Also, you don’t want to make the cook mad .

You should be prepared for an extensive physical – and you may have to lift weights etc. to prove you are in excellent health.  Some companies perform a lung test as well (to test your breathing).

Also, be ready to sell yourself.  Hey, a little self-promotion is a good thing here.  If you can demonstrate that you have a really good outlook (a “can do” attitude), this will likely be impressive to the bosses.

Additionally, you may have to have an MRI or a back x-ray. Just so you can show you’re in good health – this is pretty standard in the oil and gas industry.

Certainly, there are exceptions to this rule.  There’s a chance you may end up with “less than stellar” accommodations. But even if you do, you’ll gain vital experience – and you’ll move on to a better scenario.

Nearly anyone who wants it can get an oil rig job  this is the case, at least, for able-bodied men & women living in Canada or the United States.
