Since you know everything about Mexico, traditional Mexican culture, Mexican history and everything else there is to know about Mexico and Mexican way of life I come to you for help about something that has been bothering me for quite some time.

You see, my beloved wife is Mexican American which is the reason why I know a lot about Mexico and especially Mexican women and their hot temper.

Anyways, we just cannot agree on one thing. Okay, we can’t agree on many things, but the thing that drives us crazy is the ultimate meaning of the colors of the Mexican flag.

We know that the official meaning of the Mexican flag colors has changed over time but we also know that even Mexicans themselves cannot fully agree on the meaning of the flag colors.So what in your opinion the Mexican flag colors represent?

In any event, you are completely right when saying that the meaning of colors of Mexican flag changed over time:

During the first Mexican Empire (1821-1823): Green – Independence, White – Religion, Red – Union. First Mexican Republic (1823): Green – Hope, White – Purity, Red – Religion. Present Mexico: Green – Hope, White – Union, Red – Blood of the Heroes.

However, you are also right when saying that not all of the Mexican people agree on the official version of the meaning of the colors of Mexican flag.

Everything that we can tell you is that the Mexican flag colors represent the basic and most important things, virtues, beliefs and values for the Mexican people and that those virtues, beliefs and values changed over time and are still different in different parts of Mexico.
