About Mexican Culture in the United States

There is approximately 24 million Mexican Americans living in the Unites States (American citizens of Mexican origin).

There is close to 7 million of Mexicans that entered the United States illegally. This means that they have no visa or green card, and without those documents they dont have any rights; which is why they are used, abused and underpaid by numerous employers in U.S.

Every day more Mexicans cross the Mexican American border, risking their lives, living their loved ones behind, in order to provide for themselves and their family.

There are cities and towns in the south of the United States where English can hardly be heard because majority of people living in those American cities and towns are Mexican Americans and Mexicans.

In the United States there are Mexican American police chiefs, military generals, mayors, governors, congressmen, senators, supreme judges, etc.

There are also many Mexican American Hollywood super stars, sport stars, news reporters, scientists, doctors, lawyers, psychologists, professors, etc.

All this means that the Mexican culture is very present in the United States and that Unites States can be proud of that fact because that is the best representative of the American hospitality.

Most of Mexican Americans celebrate major Mexican religious holidays as well as the American national holidays. They are proud to be Americans but they are also proud of their Mexican origin.

Mexican Americans are very family oriented and family is the most important thing in their lives. Fathers and brothers are very protective of their daughters and sisters and all females are treated with great respect.

In general, Mexican Americans are hardworking (more than Mexicans in Mexico are), honorable, devoted to their families, handy, loyal, brave (many Mexican Americans serve in the military), warmhearted, and they love to eat, drink, dance, and enjoy life as much as possible.
