Mizuno Wave Enigma 4 Running Shoes Review

As one of the latest entries under the Wave collection, the Mizuno Wave Enigma 4 comes with technologies common to Wave models but is also packed with new and exciting features. Like its brethren, this pair of neutral trainers is highly cushioned and lightweight for the best in running comfort and performance.

The shoe also sports a newly refined fit for a more natural stride and smoother transition, while the upper Air mesh is more breathable and deals well with moisture. Plus, the outsole is made with even better materials for superior stability and traction as you go.

Key features of the Mizuno Wave Enigma 4

Innovative midsole construction

The Wave Enigma 4 utilizes the precision-engineered U4ic midsole compound, which cushions and rides like the popular AP+ midsole but without the added heft. This new midsole is 30 percent lighter than its predecessor, which enables the shoe to achieve a relatively low weight of 10.9 ounces (for a women’s size 9).

The Intercool ventilation system can now be seen running the full length of the midsole to further reduce the humidity and heat within the shoe. What remains unchanged however, is the sole’s “Wave” construction so it’s still effective in dispersing the stress and impact of the landing away from your foot. As a result, you can take on intense trainings and long mileage runs with minimal soreness or fatigue.

Refined fit and comfort

With the help of the latest biomechanics and motion capture technology, Mizuno developed theDynamotion Fit system that ensures a secure fit without hindering your feet’s natural movement. This radical design blueprint enables the shoe to intuitively move with your foot through the whole gait cycle, thus eliminating the risks of pulling and sliding.

Another notable technology used in the Enigma is the Smooth Ride Engineering, which minimizes the rapid deceleration and acceleration of your feet during transition, giving you the smoothest ride in return.

More responsive and resilient

Mizuno introduced a new outsole pattern for the Wave Enigma 4 to give runners a responsive and resilient ride. This update comes in the form of deep flex grooves that works with the forefoot Wave plate in providing proper heel-to-toe guidance and added flexibility.

The outsole is also endowed with the innovative X10 compound, which is known for its long-lasting durability and super-sticky traction on pavement and non-technical dirt trails. Combined with lightweight blown rubber in the forefoot, the shoe offers that barely-there lightness while maximizing the underfoot feel.

Improved support and durability

The Enigma 4 has no shortage in terms of cushioning, since it’s made with the SR Touch cushioning material that absorbs shock and keeps a steady transition with its fast rebound properties. This goes hand in hand with the Premium Insock for ultimate cush, comfort, and durability.

For optimal breathability, the upper construction includes Mizuno’s popular AIRmesh technology that keeps your feet cool and dry. There’s no need to worry about sudden rainfalls either, as the upper is made sturdier to cope with rain, mud, and moisture.

Additional information

The Mizuno Wave Enigma 4 is available in men’s standard and women’s standard sizes and up. It comes available in a range of color combinations like White/Black/Turkish Sea and Dark Shadow/Silver/Dude Blue. The pair is covered by the manufacturer’s one-year warranty against defects in materials or workmanship.
