ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR VARIOUS LEVELS OF UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) & Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE)/GeneralBusinessCertificate of Examination (GBCE) Applicants.
WASSCE and SSSCE/GBCE applicants must have at least credit passes (i.e. grade A1-C6 and grade A-D respectively) inthree core subjectsincluding English Language,Mathematicsand Integrated Science/Social Studies in addition to anythree elective subjectswith an aggregate score of24or better.
Note 1:Applicants for level 100 undergraduate programmes, who will be writing WASSCE in May /June 2016, are also eligible to apply. They will be required to indicate their WASSCE index numbers and the subjects they will be writing on the online application form.
Category A
General Certificate ofEducation(GCE) Advanced Level Holders:
Passes in any three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be grade D or better) at the GCE Advanced Levelplusa pass in General Paper. In addition, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) or better in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics and any Science Subject at the GCE Ordinary (‘O’) Level.
Category B
AdvancedBusinessCertificate Examinations (ABCE) Holders:
Full diploma certificate (passes in any five (5) subjects at the ABCE level and at least two of the passes should be grade D or better). In addition, the applicant must have had credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the GBCE or SSSCE or WASSCE.
Category C
Post Secondary Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’/Diploma inEducationCertificate awarded byUniversity of Cape Coast.
Category D
Recognized Professional Qualifications:
At least complete Level One (1) of any of the followingrecognized professional qualifications:
ICSA, CIM, CIMA, ACCA, ICAG and CIB only.
Category E
Higher National Diploma (HND)with at most Second Class (Lower Division) awarded by NABPTEX in disciplines relevant to the programmes being offered by the University (i.e. Accounting, Secretaryship & Management Studies, Purchasing & Supply, Marketing, Statistics, etc). In addition, the applicant must have acquired a2-year post HNDqualification working experience.
Category F
Applicants in possession of university/tertiary diploma with a Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of at most 2.99 from any university/institution accredited by NationalAccreditationBoard (NAB) in programmes relevant to the courses being offered by the University.
Note 2:Applicants who qualify under Categories C, D, E and F must, in addition have WASSCE/SSSCE/GBCE credit passes in three (3) core subjects and two(2) electives subjects or credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics and any Science subject at the GCE ‘O’ Level. UPSA diploma students who will graduate in 2016 and have met the above requirements may also apply
Category A
Higher National Diploma (HND)with at least Second Class (Upper Division) awarded by NABPTEX in disciplines relevant to theprogrammebeing offered by the University (i.e. Accounting, Secretaryship & Management Studies, Purchasing & Supply, Marketing and Statistics). In addition, the applicant must have acquired a2-year post HNDqualification working experience.
Category B
University /tertiary diploma applicants with FGPA of 3.0 in related programmes (i.e. Accounting, Public Administration, Management and Marketing) from any university accredited by the NAB.
Category C
Applicants with at least complete level two (2) of any of the followingrecognized professional qualifications:ICSA, CIM, CIMA, ACCA, ICAG and CIB only.
Note 3:Applicants who qualify under Categories A, B and C must, in addition have WASSCE/SSSCE/GBCE credit passes in three (3) core subjects and two(2) electives subjects or credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics and any Science subject at the GCE ‘O’ Level.
UPSA diploma students who will graduate in 2016 and have met the above requirements may also apply.
Mature Applicantsapplying for admission must satisfy the following entry requirements:
Note 4:Successful mature applicants would be placed at Level 100. Applicants with exceptional abilities may however be admitted to Level 200 depending on their entry qualifications, outstanding performance at the mature entrance examinations and selection interview as well as demonstrable potential to cope with academic work at Level 200. HND and University diploma holders who do not meet the minimum requirements specified above may apply as mature applicants provided they have equally satisfied the requirements for the mature applicants.
Category A
(i) WASSCE applicants must have at least credit passes (i.e. grade A1-D7) inthree core subjectsincluding English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies in addition to at least credit passes (i.e garde A1 – C6) in anythree elective subjectswhich must be relevant to applicants’ area of specialization.
Note 5:Applicants for Diploma programmes, who will be writing WASSCE in May /June 2016, are also eligible to apply. They will be required to indicate their WASSCE index numbers and the subjects they will be writing on the on-line application form.
(ii) SSSCE / GBCE applicants must have at least credit passes (i.e. grade A-D) inthree core subjectsincluding English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies in addition to anythree elective subjects.
Category B
G.C.E. Advanced Level
Passes in any two (2) subjects at the GCE ‘A’ Levelplusa pass in General Paper. In addition, the applicant must have had credit passes (at least Grade 6) in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics and any Science Subject at the GCE ‘O’ Level.
3. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
International applicants may be admitted on the basis of qualifications from their home countries for which equivalence shall be determined by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) ofGhanaand submitted to the University. Evidence of proficiency in English Language will be required in the case of applicants from non-English speaking countries. International applicants are also requested to acquireNon-Citizen Ghanacardas a pre-requisite for offer of admission. International applicants who fail to provide evidence of having acquired this card will not have their applications processed.
