This weekend, dancers in L.A. and the Bay Area will come together to commemorate the life of James “JayJun” Lee Brown Jr., a dancer gone too soon, and raise funds to help his family in this time of need. All proceeds from the benefit performance and master classes organized by IDA Hollywood here in L.A. will go directly to JayJun’s family.
Remembered as a gifted dancer, sweet-natured person, and good friend, JayJun is greatly missed both here and in the Bay Area, where he grew up. This weekend, Greg Chapkis of Chapkis Dance has arranged for Bay Area dancers who danced with JayJun to present a dedication piece in his honor at the 9th Annual Collaboration Urban Dance Competition & Showcase in San Ramon, CA.
In Hollywood on Friday, March 16, dancers will perform in a benefit show at Boulevard3. The event is from 8 to 10 pm, and a minimum donation of $5 is strongly encouraged. Dedication performances will be presented by choreographers Phlex, Isaac Tualaulelei, Tricia Miranda, Kenya Clay, Yusuf Nasir, Isi Tuifua, Dejan Tubic, and Apollo Sa’Deek. (See sidebar for location info.)
Saturday and Sunday, IDA Hollywood will host benefit master classes. Dancers can take single classes for $8, or a full afternoon of three classes for $20. (For location info, please see the “Studio Info” box and “Visiting the Studio” tab of our IDA Hollywood studio profile.)
