Live Arts Los Angeles
Basic Profile
Live Arts Los Angeles (LALA), a vibrant new dance studio and live performance space, opened in the Eagle Rock / Glassell Park area in early 2011. Originally a warehouse, LALA’s building was readied for dance with an extensive renovation. The resulting 2,000-square-foot main studio features a lofty 20-foot ceiling, a sprung maple dance floor, and 10-foot mirrors. Additional LALA amenities include a viewing loft, a Pilates studio, and an outdoor patio.
As of spring 2012, LALA has a long-running weekly 60-minute hip-hop class. The studio also occasionally hosts a 90-minute specialty hip-hop class that incorporates contemporary dance, acting, and more. The regular schedule includes an eclectic mix of classes such as contemporary/modern jazz, Zumba, and Haitian dance. In addition to evening and weekend classes, LALA offers yoga, dance, or fitness each weekday in a 9 AM time slot.
In its first year, the studio hosted dance and theater performances, benefit events, a dance awards ceremony, a photo shoot, and more. LALA master class topics have included yoga and sound healing, aromatherapy, capoeira, and Afro-contemporary dance.
LALA has an informative web site and an online class scheduling system (for links, see the Studio Info box in the upper right of this profile). The studio is active on social media, offering updates on each day’s classes:
