Facts about Mexican Drug Cartels

Mexican drug trafficking organizations are highly organized drug trafficking organizations that have billions of dollars, the latest technology, hundreds of thousands members, modern weaponry, and are notorious for their use of terror.

There are many drug cartels operating in present Mexico (Gulf Cartel, Sinaloa Cartel, Juarez Cartel, Tijuana Cartel, Valencia, Los Zetas, etc).

Even though in the recent years the major drug trafficking organizations have formed alliances with one another there is still a lot of drug related violence and turf wars.

Mexican drug trafficking organizations become increasingly powerful in the last 15 years (19952009) due to the demise of the Columbias drug cartels.

Nowadays, they are so powerful that they represent the biggest threat to the Mexicos security. This threat is so big that according to the recent report of the U.S. government Mexico may face a rapid and sudden collapse due to its drug problems.

It is for this reason that in 2006 the newly elected Mexican President Felipe Calderon declared war to Mexican drug trafficking organizations and made combating drug cartels a top priority of his administration.

The dedication of the President Calderons administration to combat the Mexican drug cartels and to take back the control of Mexico resulted in cocaine shortages in more than 40 U.S. cities and a 25% increase in the retail price of cocaine in 2007. In other words Mexican government seriously damaged drug cartels, financially and otherwise.

However this Mexican government campaign against drug trafficking organizations also resulted in the escalation of violence and use of terror by the drug cartels members in order to intimidate the Mexican people and government agents.

The main message that drug cartels are sending to the government agents is Join us or Die. With these tactics of intimidation and tactics of corruption of law enforcement officials drug cartels are trying to scare, demoralize or bribe government officials and agents.

Fortunately there are still brave and honorable Mexican men that cannot be intimidated or bribed. Those men will win this Mexican drug war and by doing so they will free their country from this drug plague.
